S/S Air Vent & Glass Fin Blank

The air vent on the left. Counter sunk holes around the outside for fixing to the board, and the vent hole is in the middle. A nut is welded on the back to allow the bung to be screwed in the vent hole. The glass fin is semi finished. It will be glassed to the board using rovings and then finished polished integral with the rest of the board.

Laminating The Cork Rails

This is the frame work I glued together and posted some time back as the first board for 2011. I am now up to the stage of laminating the rails. The cork sheet is 1200mm wide and cut into strips 80mm wide x 3150mm long. A total of 8x 6mm strips will be laminated per side. This equals a cross section of 80x48mm of solid cork stock for shaping the rails. This is a long process as the laminating of each strip only takes 15min, the glue takes 12-15hrs to dry hard.

First wooden longboard for 2011

I'm unsure at this stage on how to finish this longboard. But with all the frame work & deck skins glued up at least I have a good blank canvas to work from.
